A Reader Admiring the View
Site-specific mural
Annabelle Binnerts (1995) is a visual artist. Within her practice she is focussing on language, both as subject and material. Words and sentences can be seen in many of her works, sometimes written by herself, sometimes by others.
She is specifically interested in the way we use language to describe places. How we, for example, have attached words to every place on earth (which can be read in maps and atlases), but also how we can experience places while reading about them in a book or a story.
Besides this, she is interested in what it means to work with text within the visual context of the exhibition space: What the differences are between the role of the reader and the role of the viewer, and what exactly happens when you remove a sentence from the page and show it on a wall.
