Als locatie voor De Borduurschool van Let\u2019s grow flowers, not walls maken we gebruik van de Refectiekamer van Maria van Pallaes. Maria van Pallaes (1587 \u2013 1664) was een Utrechtse weldoenster, ze deelde voedsel en kleding uit en liet haar vermogen na aan de minder bedeelden van onze stad. Ze stichtte voor hen \u2018De kameren van Maria van Pallaes\u2019 aan de noordkant van de Agnietenstraat, waar de huisjes tot op de dag van vandaag staan. De naam Refectiehuis is afgeleid van refectorium (eetzaal). In de huisjes mochten armen gratis wonen en kregen zij een bijdrage in hun levensonderhoud.

Let\u2019s grow flowers not walls werkt in de geest van Maria Pallaes aan een stad zonder muren.

We use one of Maria van Pallaes’ Refectory Rooms (Refectiekamer) as the location for De Borduurschool (The Embroidery School) of Let’s grow flowers, not walls. Maria van Pallaes (1587 \u2013 1664) was a Utrecht benefactress, she distributed food and clothing and left her fortune to the less fortunate of our city. She founded \u2018De kameren van Maria van Pallaes\u2019 (The Chambers of Mary van Pallaes) for them on the north side of Agnietenstraat, where these cottages stand to this day. The name Refectory House is derived from refectorium (dining hall). Poor people were allowed to live in these cottages for free and received a contribution for their living expenses.

Let’s grow flowers not walls works in the spirit of Maria Pallaes to create a city without walls.
