In het voorjaar van 2020, na de uitbraak van corona, startte kunstenaar Eveline Braak (1976) met een serie figuratieve werken die ze Corona Paintings noemde. Voorafgaand aan deze serie werkte zij voornamelijk abstract.
Tijdens de pandemie voelden sommige mensen zich door het gebruik van mondmaskers afgeschermd van de buitenwereld en van elkaar. Dit gegeven komt tot uitdrukking in Corona Paintings door herkenbare en abstracte vormen die de gezichten van de geportretteerden bedekken.
De reden voor de serie was de overweldigende golf aan nieuwe informatie en gebeurtenissen. Het maken van portretten op papier – geïnspireerd op foto’s uit de media, en later ook historische foto’s – zorgde ervoor dat Braak frustratie kon omzetten in inspiratie.
Tijdens CareFull is de serie Corona Paintings te zien als wandvullende installatie.

In the spring of 2020, following the outbreak of corona, artist Eveline Braak (1976) launched a series of figurative works she called Corona Paintings. Prior to this series, she worked primarily in abstract styles.
During the pandemic, some people felt shielded from the outside world and from each other by the use of face masks. This fact is expressed in Corona Paintings through recognisable but abstract forms that cover the faces of those portrayed.
The reason for the series was the overwhelming wave of new information and events. Creating portraits on paper – inspired by photographs from various media, and later historical photographs – allowed Braak to turn frustration into inspiration.
During CareFull , the series of Corona Paintings will be on display as a wall-to-wall installation.
