De robotische installatie Encounter verbindt kunst, natuur en wetenschap. Kunstenaar Robin Krijgsman toont dat waar het lichaam ons beperkt, technologie kan aanvullen.
In Encounter worden planten door een mechanische 3D-geprinte hand met intervallen geliefkoosd en besproeid. De hand fungeert als een externe prothese voor iemand die deze planten niet meer zelf kan verzorgen.
Technologie wordt steeds vaker ingezet in de zorg. Niet alleen om een lichaam te (laten) herstellen, maar ook om iets aan een lichaam toe te voegen. In Nederland alleen al hebben circa 35.000 mensen een prothese.
Wanneer ons lichamelijk gereedschap kan worden uitgebreid met technologische componenten en mogelijkheden, nodigt dat ook uit om onze visie op ons lichaam en op onszelf te herzien: wie kunnen en willen we zijn in relatie tot technologie?
Zoals Encounter laat zien, kàn technologie een belangrijk en empathisch verlengstuk in de zorg van onszelf, natuur en omgeving zijn.

The robotic installation Encounter connects art, nature and science. Artist Robin Krijgsman shows that where the body limits us, technology can come to its aid.
In Encounter, plants are loved and watered at intervals by a mechanical 3D printed hand. The hand acts as an external prosthesis for someone who can no longer care for these plants themselves.
Technology is increasingly being used in healthcare. Not only to help a body recover, but also to augment it. In the Netherlands alone, approximately 35,000 people have a prosthesis.
When our bodily tools can be augmented with technological components and capabilities, it also invites us to rethink our vision of our bodies and ourselves: who can and do we want to be in relation to technology? As Encounter shows, technology can be an important and empathetic extension in the care of ourselves, nature and the environment.
