Het voormalige postkantoor aan de Neude is een van de meest iconische gebouwen van Utrecht. Niet voor niets een rijksmonumentaal pand. Wie er vroeger zijn postzaken deed, kwam niet verder dan de enorme hal. Tegenwoordig is het pand voor openbaar. Voor leden én niet-leden. In Bibliotheek Utrecht is van alles te doen. Leesclubs, avonden met schrijvers, films, talkshows, theatervoorstellingen, cursussen en lezingen. Verder zijn er rondleidingen door het gebouw (ook voor kinderen en kun je hedendaagse kunst bekijken. Ook zijn er programma’s en wisselende tentoonstellingen door en voor Utrechters. Knuffel | Hug | 拥抱

Ying Yi Wu toont de kracht van kwetsbare droogbloemen. Knuffel is de universele lichaamstaal om elkaar te troosten en te groeten. Knuffel is wat we op dit moment dringend nodig hebben. Het geeft ons direct energie om met moeilijke situaties om te gaan en onze goede aandacht voor elkaar te delen. Maar hoe zit het met jezelf knuffelen? Heb je ooit de verhalen van ‘knuffel’ gemaakt van gedroogde bloemen gezien? De gedroogde bloemen blijven anders van kleur dan de levende, maar de geur blijft behouden op een subtiele manier. Het is Ying Yi’s manier om de natuur te behouden, om de tijdige bloemen tot een tijdloos wezen te maken. Om de betekenis van bloemen in een andere vorm en omgeving vast te houden. Laat je verrassen door de kracht van kwetsbare droogbloemen!
Extra: za 17 september: opening en theeceremonie Ontmoet Ying Yi Wu op zaterdag 17 september bij de opening en theeceremonie. De opening zal van 13.00 – 14.00 uur zijn en de theeceremonie van 15.00 – 20.00 uur in het Podium, op de 2e etage van Bibliotheek Neude.
Conferentie HKU bij kunstmanifestatie CareFull

Tijdens de tentoonstelling Carefull zijn er bijzondere kunstprojecten, locaties, musea en buitenplaatsen te bezoeken in Utrecht. 36 kunstprojecten laten je voelen dat kunstenaars volop nadenken over ingewikkelde thema’s van nu. Waarom? BECAUSE WE CARE! Want hoe dragen we straks zorg voor elkaar, de omgeving, natuur en onszelf?
HKU-alumni laten je in de kunstprojecten met andere ogen naar deze vragen kijken, al makend onderzoeken zij nieuwe relaties, materialen, perspectieven en hoopvolle toekomsten. Welke rol zie jij voor de kunstenaar in deze opgaven? Praat mee!
Ontvangst: 15.00 uur
Start programma: 15.15 – 16.15 uur: Onder leiding van Michiel Schwarz gaan we in gesprek met kunstenaars: Jolanda Schouten, Mitchel Breed en Robin Krijgsman. Vanuit HKU vertellen Marinda Verhoeven en Gjilke Keuning hoe HKU studenten maatschappelijke opgaven steeds meer centraal zetten in hun werk.

Lets grow flowers, not walls (Het Vliegend Tapijt) – Jolanda Schouten.
1 en 22 oktober – Utrecht is een stad waar we samenwerken, deuren staan open voor nieuwe ideeën, organisaties en ondernemers. In onze stad geven we elkaar de ruimte. We zien elkaar, we
ontmoeten elkaar en we delen onze stad met elkaar. Deze waarden brengen we graag naar voren in ons project Let’s grow Flowers not walls.
Let’s grow flowers not walls is een groeiend community borduurproject onder leiding van Jolanda Schouten waarbij mensen uit alle windstreken samen borduren aan een serie grote tuintapijten. Nu strijkt ‘Het Vliegend Tapijt’ van Jolanda Schouten weer neer in de grote hal van Bibliotheek Neude.
Met draden vertellen we verhalen. Borduursteken hebben een geschiedenis en betekenis die verbonden zijn aan je cultuur, je identiteit, aan wat je van je moeder of je oma je geleerd hebben. Door samen een tuintapijt te maken, bouwen we aan een community van bewoners uit Utrecht; oude en nieuwe bewoners!
Jolanda Schouten werkt samen met Stichting Welkom in Utrecht, bewoners van het AZC en de Noodopvang Utrecht. Met Crafts Council Nederland, het Utrechts Monumentenfonds, HKU Master of Arts in Education. Project is een onderdeel van Kunstroute CareFull (ArtUtrecht) in het kader van Utrecht 900 Stad zonder Muren Met dank aan ondersteuning van Gemeente Utrecht en Het Mondriaanfonds

The former post office on the Neude square is one of Utrecht’s most iconic buildings. It is easy to see why it is a listed monumental building. Those who used to take care of their postal business there did not get beyond the huge hall. However, these days, the property is open to the public. For members and non-members alike. There is a lot to do in Bibliotheek Utrecht. Reading clubs, evenings with writers, films, talk shows, theatre performances, courses and lectures. There are also guided tours of the building (also for children) and you can enjoy contemporary art. There are also programmes and alternating exhibitions by and for Utrecht residents. Ying Yi Wu demonstrates the power of fragile dried flowers. Hugs are the universal body languages used to comfort and greet each other. Which is what we desperately need right now. It instantly energises us to deal with difficult situations and share our fondness for each other. But what about giving yourself a hug? Have you ever been embraced by dried flowers? The dried flowers remain distinct in colour from the live ones, but their fragrances are retained in a subtle way. It is Ying Yi’s way of preserving nature, of transforming ephemeral flowers into timeless creations. To capture the meaning of flowers in a different form and environment. Surprise yourself by the power of fragile dried flowers!
Extra: Sat 17 September: opening and tea ceremony Meet Ying Yi Wu on Saturday, 17 September at the opening and tea ceremony. The opening will be from 13:00 – 14:00 and the tea ceremony from 15:00 – 20:00 at the Podium, on the 2nd floor of Bibliotheek Neude.

CareFull is a project that concerns ‘care’ in the broadest sense of the word. Take care of each other, your surroundings, nature and yourself. The artists taking part in the art event CareFull (10 September – 30 October), at 20 locations in and around Utrecht reflect on the themes of today. How do we take care of each other? How do we take care of people and communities, nature and our (urban) environment? During this conference, HKU artists and staff from domains such as care, welfare and sustainability will speak about the role of the arts in these domains. What is working with a healthcare organisation like for an artist, and are care organisations properly considering the role artists can play in design issues?

1 and 22 October: Lets grow flowers, not walls (Vliegend Tapijt) – Jolanda Schouten. This ongoing community embroidery project by Jolanda Schouten has been a previous guest at the library with an exhibition and two embroidery sessions. Now ‘Het Vliegend Tapijt | The Flying Carpet’ by Jolanda Schouten is back in the main hall of Bibliotheek Neude. A diverse group of people from all over the world from AZC and the Utrecht emergency shelter have been embroidering together on a series of large garden carpets. People who want to start a new life in the Netherlands, but already bring a whole life along with them. Threads tell stories, embroidery stitches a history. A history connected to a culture and an identity. We are building a community by making a garden carpet together. Jolanda Schouten works together with Stichting Welkom in Utrecht, residents of the AZC and the Utrecht emergency shelter. With Crafts Council Netherlands, the Utrecht Monuments Fund, HKU Master of Arts in Education. The project is within the context of Utrecht 900 and is part of the CareFull exhibition.
